Social Media

Socia media has strongly impacted public opinion formation and communication strategies in many ways. As I was doing my research for my presentation, it made me realize that this is how most online companies navigate to keep their business successful. Since social media widely used by many people around the world. Public opinion is shaped when online users evaluate their audience's behavior and likes online. They also utilize feedback and analyze comments to give them an idea on what should be advertised. Shaping public communication starts off with strategies to engage and persuade the audience to get them to change what they already believe. In chapter 15, Persuasive Presentations, it mentioned that people online use proof which is using evidence to get the receiver to believe any claims that they make (Pearson). Public opinion is also shaped through the use of visual persuasion. This is very effective especially int eh online platforms because people are drawn to eye catching visuals. It gives them have a positive way to think about whatever is being shown.

The Narrative Paradigm theory influences communication on social media because it creates an emotional effect that people can relate to. For example, in Apple's Instagram posts, in some of the captions people tell their life stories. This is effective communication because it doesn't just talk about the product but the stories it brings.

The Gatekeeping theory is another concept that influences communication because people on social media will withhold information to keep their viewers curious. This gets people to ask more questions and be more engaged in the online platform.
